College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University
Located in the heart of Shanghai, Tongji University's College of Civil Engineering is a hub of academic excellence, blending 110 years of tradition with modern engineering education. The college comprises five departments: the Department of Structural Engineering, the Department of Bridge Engineering, the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, the Department of Disaster Mitigation for Structures, and the Department of Hydraulic Engineering. Each department not only specializes in its field but also contributes to a collaborative atmosphere rich with cutting-edge research and a distinguished faculty.
1. Civil Engineering Building
Completed in 2005, the Civil Engineering Building features a steel-framed structure with concrete elements. Building A, home to the Department of Structural Engineering, and Building B, housing the Department of Disaster Mitigation for Structures, are connected by a bridge. This includes a six- and seven-story corridor with an integrated steel truss that suspends an open passage on the fifth floor, showcasing various stress forms.
2. Bridge Engineering Hall
The Bridge Engineering Hall is home to the Department of Bridge Engineering. The building is equipped with units of the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering, the Key Laboratory of Bridge Structure Wind Resistance Technology and Transportation Industry, Tongji OVM Prestress Research Center, etc. The hall also boasts the largest domestic two-way dynamic/static hydraulic servo loading system and a complete array of bridge inspection and monitoring equipment.
3. Geotechnical Engineering Building
The Geotechnical Engineering Building, home to the Department of Geotechnical Engineering and the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, houses advanced laboratories for geotechnical testing. The departments have established an internationally recognized research platform with state-of-the-art instruments and equipment, creating an excellent environment for scientific research and academic exchange.
